Finalizing SONGS/PATTERN with SQ01
I haven't explored much with SQ01.
This is what I would like to do -

I sequenced a few songs in the SONG and PATTERNs on my Motif ES. I would like to edit and give finishing touches using SQ01. To do this, I need all the sounds loaded into SQ01. Once the songs are finalized after editing, I want to put it back on the Motif ES.

So couple of questions -
1. How do I load Motif ES sounds into SQ01?
2. How will I edit the songs I created in SONG/PATTERN?

I couldn't find much documentation on this. Any pointers will be helpful. I know Bad_Mister once said in the forum "SQ01 is now a history". Is it true?

Apreciate it!

No, you don't. The sounds will always be in your Motif ES. You want to transfer the MIDI data from the Motif ES sequencer to the SQ01 sequencer. The sound will always come from the Motif ES (your computer - as cool as it is, is not a Motif ES, not by a long shot). The MIDI data can be edited in the Motif ES or you can edit the MIDI data in SQ01 - that is your choice.

But to really understand this. MIDI data is not sound. It represents sound. If you play middle "C" on your keyboard and record it into the sequencer... the sequencer records;
Note number 60
It records when you played note 60, it records when you let go of note 60, it records anything you do to note 60 while it is held (like move the modulation wheel, the pitch bend wheel, the sustain pedal, etc.)

What it does not record is: what sound you played... You could play it originally on a flute, and later play it back on a bassoon. Because MIDI data is not sound. It is the numbers that represent the sound. The Motif ES is the sound generator.

When you move the sequence data from the Motif ES to another sequencer you move the numbers not the sound.

1. How do I load Motif ES sounds into SQ01?
You don't

2. How will I edit the songs I created in SONG/PATTERN?
You can edit the data in the Motif ES by pressing the [EDIT] button from the main SONG or the main PATTERN screen. The event data shows what Measure: Beat; Clock tick, each note was played, how long each note was held (Gate), and how strongly (Velocity) it was struck.

Now I would be remiss if I did not mention, that you can (if you have a proper AUDIO INTERFACE) record the audio output of your Motif ES to SQ01 - it is capable of recording both MIDI and/or AUDIO. But from your question you seem to be talking about Editing the MIDI data that you recorded in your Motif ES sequencer

For information on working within the Motif ES sequencer see page 124 of your manual "Editing the recorded song"

Re: Finalizing SONGS/PATTERN with SQ01
Thanks Bad Mister. I've edited MIDI data on SQ01 in the past. I was just curious if I can edit my songs on SQ01 completely away from ES and load it back into ES.

I think it'll be really cool if we can do that or Yamaha can build a software like that. Sometimes "Interoperability" can prove very helpful. I don't mind paying $$ if there's a software like that.
